In this decision the Labour Relations Board
found that the employer had breached the Labour Relations Code by threatening
employees with dismissal for union organizing activities, by prohibiting
union campaigning in the workplace while allowing anti-union campaigning,
and by implementing a wage increase and profit sharing during the Union’s
organizing campaign. The Board ordered remedial certification accompanied
by various complementary remedies including monthly union meetings in
the workplace. This is the first remedial certification ordered by the
Board in over 2 ½ years.
